Supportive homes and communities

VIMHS hosts a variety of community events throughout the year. These events differ from fundraising events in that they are education based and a way of engaging the community in the work of the Society. Some of these events involve other organizations in and around the Nanaimo area. Community events help us get our name out there and give people an idea of the supports available to them in our community. Please check in periodically for updates and new events!
Vancouver Island Mental Health Society also receives support from community members in a variety of ways. Below are a few examples of community members dedicated toward giving back.

did you know?

Desire Tattoo reMaybe you’ve seen people with a semicolon tattoo and wondered what it’s all about? According to the Project Semicolon website, the semicolon tattoo is part of a “global non-profit movement dedicated to presenting HOPE and LOVE for those who are struggling with mental illness, suicide, addiction and self-injury… a semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you, and the sentence is your life.”
Nanaimo’s own Desire Tattoo has embraced the movement. Des and Cara from Desire have created 30 beautiful, pre-drawn designs to choose from, including: paw prints, bat wings, angel wings, infinity, watercolour drops, hearts, flowers, ECG line, moons, and script – each with a semicolon incorporated into the design – for only $50.00 (including tax, cash only).
